Supporting our soldiers

I am reading a book about a girl in America during World War II. It got me thinking. Back then people did all they could to help and support our soldiers, even the kids helped; and I want to do something to help our soldiers nowdays. Our soldiers do their part by risking thier lives to save the US, and I want to support them in some way. I have been thinking of ways that I can help support them. So far I have thought that i could collect used soda cans and exchange them for money and use the money to help our soldiers, but I don't know where I would send the money or how it would get to our soldiers.
